-Do I need a special computer to read an eBook?
No. You do need an internet connection, (or the temporary use of one), to download your eBooks as well as software installed to be able to read them. The software is free and easy to install and use. See our Software section here for more information. Once you have downloaded the book, it’s yours to use anywhere, with no internet connection required.
-Which download format should I choose? Which format is compatible with my hand held device?

This depends on the size of the eBook and the strength of your internet connection, either way it should not take more than a couple of minutes.

For your security and peace of mind, we do not keep records of credit cards on our systems. Our payments are processed by Realex Ltd, a world leader in Credit Card processing. We insist on the best when dealing with our customers security, and Realex share our commitment. While it may be a minor nuisance to enter in your credit card details each time, it is in your best interests.
-Do I have to pay tax on eBooks?
It depends on your geographic location, but don’t worry, all taxes due are included in the price of your eBook. What you see is what you get. It’s all part of our policy of clear, straightforward pricing.
-Why are some eBooks more expensive than paperbacks?
There are a number of reasons.
Publishers set the SRP(suggested Retail Price) for all books, including eBooks. Normally eBooks are priced the same as Hardbacks as they tend to come out at the same time. There is a trend moving towards lowering the price of eBooks and we will do everything we can to always try and bring you the best deals on our eBooks. You will notice that we always try to ensure that the vast majority of our titles are always priced below SRP.
Last but not least, there is one major difference between books and eBooks. eBooks attract vat at 21.5% which books generally do not. This is a large extra cost that the retailer must account for and hence the increased price. Don’t forget that at DirecteBooks.com, the price you see is the price you pay –no hidden extras, Vat and all taxes included.
Yes you can. Please contact us for an address to send your cheque to. Once your cheque has been received and cleared, you will receive the same amount in credit in your account. Some people like to pay for individual books this way, others prefer to deposit larger amounts and use when required over a period of time. Your choice.
-Can I print and copy my eBooks
It depends. Most eBooks have higher levels of protection that do not allow any printing for copyright reasons. However, some eBooks do allow printing for personal use – usually 3-6 pages at a time. If unsure, please contact us by email to check for you before you purchase or download.
-What is the return policy on eBooks?
As eBooks cannot be physically returned, it is our policy not to offer refunds on successful purchases. Please make sure that you follow the instructions given in the purchasing process. Pay particular attention to whether you are downloading the correct file type for your device.
-How do I change my account details?
Click on my account and log in if required. Here you can change such information as email address, contact details etc. Please note that your address must be the same as the billing address on your credit card or purchases may not go through.
-Do you offer rebates, credits, and loyalty points?
No. We don’t currently offer credits, loyalty points, rebates or any similar scheme. We feel that such schemes tend to be confusing and complicated. -What is Adobe Digital editions?
Adobe Digital Editions is a program you can use to read your pdf and epub eBooks on your computer. It will also allow you to interact with many handheld devices. There are other programs on the market, but from personal experience, Adobe Digital Editions seems to be the best. You can download Adobe Digital Editions here.
Your bookshelf will allow you access to the eBooks you have bought in case your computer dies or other emergencies happen. Access your bookshelf by logging into your account on here. Please note that you are allowed a maximum of three downloads of each book.
-An eBook I wanted to buy has Geographic Restrictions. What's that?
The explanation is: Due to the way eBook contracts are written, there are times when a particular eBook has geographic restrictions. This means we cannot legally sell the eBook to people who live in certain countries.
The solution is: However, we have made the concious decision not to currently stock eBooks that have restrictions. This means all our titles are avilable worldwide! Directebooks - keeping life simple!
